MURPHY'S LAWS of combat operations

  1. You are not superman.
  2. Keep it simple stupid.
  3. Automatic weapons - aren't.
  4. Recoil-less weapons - aren't.
  5. Suppressive fire - won't
  6. Incoming fire has right of way.
  7. If the enemy is in range, then so are you.
  8. Don't look conspicuous, it draws fire.
  9. If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.
  10. When in doubt, empty your magazine.
  11. The easy way is always mined.
  12. Try to look unimportant, the enemy may be low on ammo.
  13. Teamwork is essential, it gives them somebody else to shoot at.
  14. Never draw fire, it irritates everyone around you.
  15. Anything you do can get you shot, including doing nothing.
  16. Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you.
  17. If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
  18. No battle plan survives contact with the enemy.
  19. Your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.
  20. The only thing more accurate than enemy incoming fire is friendly incoming fire.
  21. When you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy.
  22. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you won't be able to get out.
  23. If you're short on everything but the enemy, you're in a combat zone.
  24. The enemy invariably attacks on only two occasions - when you're ready for them and when you're not.
  25. A sucking chest wound is natures way of telling you to slow down.

"Do not worry about the round that has got your name on it. It will hit you and it will kill you, no questions asked. The rounds to worry about are the ones marked: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN."
